The footage appeared on a big screen onstage during the taping of a live tribute show Monday in Nashville, "Toby Keith: An American Icon." According to Taste of Country, the clip came from his last studio recording, when he sang Joe Diffie's "Ships That Don't Come In." Keith sang the melancholy number about life's disappointments as part of a tribute to Diffie on HARDY’s Hixtape: Vol. 3: Difftape. Keith died in February after a battle with stomach cancer, while Diffie died in 2020 from complications from Covid. You can see the footage of Keith on Taste of Country's Instagram or wait for NBC to air the tribute concert on Wednesday, August 28 at 9 p.m. Some of the artists performing Keith's hits include Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Ashley McBryde, Parker McCollum, Jelly Roll, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, and The War And Treaty. In an emotional moment, Keith's daughter, Krystal Keith, sang the song now synonymous with the late country star: "Don't Let the Old Man In." Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
