Style I Do Barre Workouts 4x’s A Week, And My Best-Kept Secret Is Lululemon’s We Made Too Much Section All my favorite gear is under $100. Southern Living's editorial guidelines Published on March 27, 2024 07:00AM EDT Photo: Southern Living / Reese Herrington Some people run laps on the track or hike a few miles over the weekend, but me? I’m a barre girl. Combining elements from pilates, yoga, and ballet with a focus on toning arm, ab, and leg muscles, it requires comfortable, sweat-wicking athleisure. It also requires special, floor-gripping socks that can get pretty expensive (IYKYK), so I try to stick to a budget for my workout outfits. I still want to look cute while sculpting my bum, of course, and since head-to-toe Lululemon gear is my favorite workout uniform, Lululemon’s We Made Too Much section is my go-to. A true gem for finding stylish yet affordable workout clothes, this section is my best-kept secret for all my cutest activewear outfits, including leggings, tops, sport bras, and more. Best of all, all of my Lululemon picks, which you can shop below, are under $100. I’ll wear it to the studio where I can take it off to reveal a tank top underneath, or I can keep it on during the class. It’s comfortable enough to wear through every pulse, bend stretch, and pushup, without overheating me as I build up a sweat. Designed for runners, the ribbed texture fabric is also quick-drying, stretchy, and retains its shape. Not to mention, I absolutely love the thumb holes. (All zip-ups should have thumb holes!) Groove Super-High-Rise Flared Pant Nulu Regular lululemon Orig. $118 $49 at Lululemon I’m loving these buttery soft workout pants for the high-rise fit and subtle flare bottoms. Made with yoga-lovers in mind, these flared pants are also perfect for barre, because they’re super breathable and body-hugging from the waist to the knee. Some leggings are simply too thin to wear to barre (biker shorts are a big no-no) and cannot handle the resistance and friction of exercise bands. But these lightweight pants are somehow weightless yet thick enough to withstand the pressure of the band without developing band marks afterward. Lululemon Align Asymmetrical Tank Top lululemon Orig. $78 $54 at Lululemon Lululemon’s Align line is highly coveted and highly comfortable, and I’m obsessed with this asymmetrical twist on the popular collection. Available in an earthy beige and black, this off-the-shoulder top has a small yet aesthetic detail of overlapping asymmetrical fabric on the bottom left hem. It also features a tight compression fit and a built-in shelf bra that provides light to medium support for B to C cups, both of which come in handy when it comes to burpees and high knees. Lululemon Align High-Rise Mini-Flared Pant Extra Short lululemon Orig. $118 $59 at Lululemon High rise and full length, these Align pants were designed to be flexible and breathable enough for yoga classes, which is what also makes them ideal for other low-impact workouts, like barre. The back has a convenient drop-in pocket, and overall, these pants fit just like leggings, but have a light flare at the bottom that gives them a more relaxed fit, reminiscent of yoga pants from the 2010s. Softstreme Scoop-Neck Bra B/C Cup lululemon Orig. $48 $39 at Lululemon If loungewear were a bra, this would be it. This scoop neck sport bra is versatile enough to wear on its own or underneath another workout shirt (although it seems a shame to cover up the bra’s adorable ruched underband). It’s also very comfortable to work out in, too, as it has built-in support for B and C cups. But its best feature overall is definitely its peach-fuzz soft material. While most Lululemon pieces are lightweight and stretchy, the Softstreme Scoop-Neck feels more similar to sweatshirt material. You’ll want to work out in it, lounge in it, and sleep in it. Swiftly Tech Short-Sleeve Shirt 2.0 lululemon Orig. $68 $49 at Lululemon For seriously sweaty workouts that you know are going to push you, the Swiftly Tech Short-Sleeve can handle it all. With no itchy seams and a blended no-static material, this shirt is designed for running and reduces chafing, retains shape, stretches further than other fabrics, and uses mesh to maximize breathability during cardio heavy training. The fabric is also designed to inherently inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria, which means it’s perfect for those barre classes that infuse just a little more cardio than usual. Lululemon Align V-Waist Pant 25-Inch lululemon Orig. $118 $89 at Lululemon There’s something so flattering about the slight V-shaped waistband that draws the eye into the low-rise front. The back features an opposing high-rise fit, which means more coverage for the booty while I squat and stretch, and the 25-inch length sits right above the ankle so it won’t annoyingly interfere with the mandatory barre socks. I also like how the V-shaped waistband elevates the look a little, so if I need to make some stops and run some errands after class, the legging’s tailored lines look more refined. Hold Tight Cropped Tank Top lululemon Orig. $48 $24 at Lululemon Silhouettes are definitely why Lululemon’s clothing stands out in a sea of activewear, and this racerback top is one of the most flattering there is. It fits like a second skin—without cutting off circulation or stifling my chest—and like so many other Lululemon staples from the We Made Too Much section, this tank is casual enough to wear on a warm summer day, class or no class. Its cropped length sits right above the waist in a rounded-out hemline that allows me to see my ab muscles get to work in the mirrored wall ahead of me, and it’s neither too bulky or too hot to wear in the sun or even jog in. Hold Tight Short-Sleeved Shirt lululemon Orig. $58 $39 at Lululemon Like the Swiftly Tech Short-Sleeve, this short-sleeved shirt contours the body while working overtime to wick away any moisture and sweat. Since the hem hits below the waistline, it provides an extra few inches of coverage that allows you to either tuck it into a workout skort or let it hang over leggings. It’s even casual enough to wear with any regular, non-workout outfit, too—no one would ever know it’s designed for exercise. It’s Rulu Run Fleece High-Rise Jogger Full Length lululemon Orig. $128 $89 at Lululemon This may be a controversial take, but I don’t think barre is a leggings-only type of workout. Lightweight, sweat-wicking joggers are totally fair game, too (at least in my book), especially during colder months when the walk from the parking lot to the studio can feel two miles longer than it is. These joggers are soft and warm, thanks to airy fleece material, yet still quick-drying and thin enough to get your sweat on. Its high rise fit doesn’t cling too tightly or fall too loosely against my body as I toe-raise and plie, so it doesn’t get in the way of my workout. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
