A tiny stray kitten has a new home after being rescued by police officers in Louisville, Kentucky, over the weekend.

According to a Facebook post by the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), officers were out early Saturday morning to “make sure traffic flowed in and out without issues” ahead of the National Street Rod Association's annual convention when they heard the “faint crying sounds of a kitten” coming from a storm drain near the Kentucky Exposition Center.

“No time to call our fire buddies,” LMPD recalled on Facebook. “A plan was put into place and the rescue was made. Lt. Walden got down and dirty and located the kitten. She made the rescue with a little coaxing of some snacks. Smiles all around as the kitten made it out with Lt.  Just all in a day's work!!!”

A representative for LMPD told Southern Living that Walden coaxed the one-pound kitten out of her hiding spot using the cheese from a Lunchables package.

The kitten, who is estimated to be around four weeks old, was adopted by the officer who first heard her cries. Her name is Rory.

Rory was checked out by a vet and, aside from some fleas, was given a clean bill of health. LMPD said that she is “doing great.”

How sweet!
