Amazon's Prime Video just announced that a Legally Blonde prequel is in the works at the streamer. According to a show description, shared by Variety, the new series is currently titled Elle, and it “follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.” In case you’ve somehow missed that particular masterpiece, in the film Witherspoon plays Elle Woods a fashion-forward sorority president and first runner-up at the Miss Hawaiian Tropics contest who enrolls in Harvard Law School to prove to her ex-boyfriend that she should be taken seriously. When she is asked to help on a court case, she ends up solving a murder and freeing her falsely-accused sorority sister. (What? Like it’s hard?) While the boyfriend doesn’t last, the legacy of Legally Blonde has thrived since the film was released in 2001. It had a sequel in Legally Blonde: Red, White & Blonde, when Elle goes to Washington, D.C. and there was a musical version on Broadway. Now, fans get to return to the world of Elle Woods, following her during her high school years. Those of us who watch way too much television may be reminded of The Carrie Diaries, which followed Sex and the City’s protagonist Carrie Bradshaw during her high school days. Elle was reported to be in development at Prime Video back in April, but the streaming network made it official with an announcement to advertisers on Tuesday. To celebrate the deal, Witherspoon appeared on stage in Elle's trademark pink suit, accompanied by Elle’s chihuahua Bruiser (they are both Gemini vegetarians) to announce the series. As Witherspoon states in the video, the project is in partnership with her company, Hello Sunshine. We cannot wait! Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
