The next time someone in Louisville, Kentucky, needs to pick up ingredients for a Hot Brown or fresh mint for a julep, they can stroll over to the South’s best grocery store. That’s right, Publix is opening its first location in the Bluegrass State.

Publix, the Lakeland, Florida-based grocery chain opened it's doors January 10, according to Louisville news outlet WDRB. The 55,000-square-foot store is in east Louisville, near Interstate 265 and Old Henry Road. If that’s not convenient, don’t fret: This is just the first of three new locations set to open in Louisville.

Soon Louisville residents will learn why Southerners love Publix so very much and all the little things the chain does to live up to its motto, “Where Shopping is a Pleasure”. There’s the fresh, cut-to-order produce, the bakery that inspires deep love, a goodie-packed freezer section, the sweet 1st birthday tradition, and the fact that they will take your groceries to your car for you, which is a hallmark of hospitality.

In addition to all the grocery-store staples, Publix is also famous for all its prepared foods. Sure there are plenty of restaurants in Louisville and the Hot Brown is a classic, but wait until Louisville residents try a Publix sub with chicken tenders, jalapeños, and cheddar on cheesy bread. Is Louisville ready for a fried chicken bar and corn nuggets or steamed-and-seasoned seafood on demand?

While folks may think all those little perks translate to a higher grocery bill (which no one needs these days), there are plenty of ways to make shopping at Publix for your groceries affordable. Welcome to the Publix fan club, Louisville!
