Southern moms have a lot of wisdom to impart to their daughters, but Southern fathers also play such an important role in bringing up strong, independent, kind women, which is why Joanna Garcia Swisher took a moment to celebrate her father, as well as her husband.

The Sweet Magnolias star sat down with People magazine for an interview and couldn’t help but swoon over her husband, retired MLB player and World Series Champion, Nick Swisher, and how he raises their two daughters, Emerson Jay, 11, and Sailor Stevie, 8. "It's really sweet,” she said, noting that Nick is her daughters' "number one fan" and "biggest hype man." As one of our favorite quotes says, “Being a daddy’s girl is like having permanent armor for the rest of your life.”

Watching her husband raise their daughters is a little bittersweet for her, though, after losing her own father, Jay Garcia, who died in 2019. She told People that the way her husband parents their girls makes her think about her dad. “That is something that I could get really emotional about,” she said in the interview.. “I was very, very, very close to my dad. He was the ultimate girl dad.

Her own father helped her see the incredible importance of having a strong, present father figure not only in her own life, but in the life of her little girls, too.. "I know how important that role is in a young girl's life," she said.

"I feel so grateful that I'm doing this with him and I feel grateful for my daughters," Swisher Garcia said.
