Southern Living's editorial guidelines Updated on November 24, 2023 01:45PM EST Photo: Southern Living / Marcus Millan As a shopping writer, I pride myself on finding the most bang for my buck, especially when it comes to Black Friday. I know how to cut through the noise of rather unremarkable sales, and find the ones worth shopping, which is what led me to perusing J.Crew. Now, I rarely shop at J.Crew, but it has some of the most impressive savings I’ve seen so far, and since I’m in desperate need of a wardrobe refresh for the season, I’ll be happily adding each one of these picks to my cart. Keep scrolling for the top 12 J.Crew deals that this shopping writer will be buying come Black Friday. Shop J.Crew Black Friday Deals Side-Slit Metallic Sweater Dress, $134.50 (orig. $168) Villa Puffer Coat, $94.50 (orig. $248) Gwyneth Slip Skirt, $99.50 (orig. $128) Metallic Merino Wool Ruffleneck Sweater, $40.80 with code FRIDAY (orig. $128) Daphne Top Coat, $146.50 (orig. $298) Stevie Suede Pull-On Boots, $199.50 (orig. $248) Faceted-Crystal Drop Earrings, $14.50 (orig. $29.50) Quilted Excursion Vest, $74.50 (orig. $148) Ribbed Scarf in Supersoft Yarn, $39.50 (orig. $79.50) Feather-Trim Long-Sleeve Shirt, $54.50 (orig. $98) J.Crew Colorblock Trainers, from $39.50 (orig. $118) Side-Slit Metallic Sweater Dress J.Crew Orig. $168 $135 at Jcrew.com It was love at first sight. The J.Crew Side-Slit Metallic Sweater Dress and I are going to get along super well—especially now that it’s 20 percent off. I know it’s a Black Friday sale, but I do wish it had been marked down sooner so that I could have worn it to host Thanksgiving. Still, I’ll get plenty of use out of it come Christmas (which I somehow am also hosting). I love the shiny metallic details in the fabric, and although it’s perfect for holiday gatherings, I also appreciate that it’s not overly festive. That means it’s versatile enough to get plenty of wear out of it year round, too. Villa Puffer Coat J.Crew Orig. $248 $95 at Jcrew.com My next J.Crew obsession is the Villa Puffer Coat, which I’m loving in the color Sand Castle. At 62 percent off, it’s final sale, and I’m especially excited because while I already own one puffer coat, this one stops around mid-thigh (depending on your height). My other puffer goes down to my ankles—which comes in handy during the cold, windy months—but this one is a little more stylish and better for milder winter weather. Gwyneth Slip Skirt J.Crew Orig. $128 $100 at Jcrew.com Um, hello skirt of my dreams?! I’ve been meaning to get on the slip skirt train for a while now, but I’ve doubted my ability to pull it off—until now. The Gwyneth Slip Skirt in antique gold lamé is a bold choice (especially as my first foray into midi skirts), but it’s just too beautiful to not take the risk. It will really make a statement at the various holiday parties I have to attend, and it’s also available in many other colors, like black, camel, and a stone-gray color if I want to take a subtler approach for spring. Metallic Merino Wool Ruffleneck Sweater J.Crew Orig. $128 $41 at Jcrew.com First of all, “ruffleneck” is my new favorite word, and second of all, this is my new favorite sweater. Plus, it’s on double sale if you use the code SHOPEARLY, which brings the price down to $51. I guess metallic is my unintentional go-to style of the moment, because the Metallic Merino Wool Ruffleneck Sweater also has discreet metallic detailing that adds a little shine throughout. I also love the ribbed-like texture of the Merino wool, and that ruffled collar? Obsessed. Daphne Top Coat J.Crew Orig. $298 $147 at Jcrew.com In an effort to further step up my coat game, I’m eying the Daphne Top Coat, which is now $170 in the camel color. There’s nothing chicer than a nimble neutral, and I can totally envision myself wearing this with black jeans and the aforementioned ruffleneck sweater underneath. Stevie Suede Pull-On Boots J.Crew Orig. $248 $200 at Jcrew.com You can probably sense a theme here, as each of my picks fits into a monochrome capsule wardrobe that can be easily mixed and matched. I love the Stevie Suede Pull-On Boots for the same reason, and I think they’d go well with just about every other pick on my list. The kitten heel is just under 2 inches, which makes it comfortable and easier to walk in than the spike or chunky heels I usually like. The rubber outsole and leather upper and lining means it pairs well with both denim and tights alike, and it’s easy to get on and off with its stretchy, sock-like texture. Faceted-Crystal Drop Earrings J.Crew Orig. $30 $15 at Jcrew.com While I typically don’t fawn over jewelry and have a habit of sticking to my same gold signature pieces, I’m surprised by how much I like the Faceted-Crystal Drop Earrings. Both crystals look like they could be standalone studs, but when they’re combined together, they elevate each other, making an elegant pairing. I’d wear these to Christmas dinner, New Year’s, or a wedding, although I think I could wear them at work events or fancy date nights, too. They give all the glitz and glamour of real diamonds, but at a fraction of the price. Quilted Excursion Vest J Crew Orig. $148 $75 at Jcrew.com It’s giving Pinterest in the early 2010s, but with an elevated, more current twist. I’m thrilled that vests are back, especially in time for colder temps and biting winds. The Quilt Excursion Vest reminds me of one I used to have back in high school, it was perfect for layering over a sweater or flannel during mild-weathered days. This one is just the right amount of puffy and it’s flattering when worn either open or closed, which can be hard to find in a sea of marshmallow-esque vests. Ribbed Scarf in Supersoft Yarn J.Crew Orig. $80 $40 at Jcrew.com It’s so tricky to find the right scarf, which is why I’m still wearing one I got years ago even though it’s awfully pilled. But J.Crew’s Ribbed Scarf in Supersoft Yarn has given me the courage to turn the old scarf into a rag, and make the upgrade. This one is, in fact, ultra soft, thanks to a blend of nylon, Merino wool, alpaca, and spandex, and it comes in six fall- and winter-friendly hues. Feather-Trim Long-Sleeve Shirt J.Crew Orig. $98 $55 at Jcrew.com Now 44 percent off, the Feather-Trim Long-Sleeve Shirt has me finally ready to try out the feather trim trend I’ve been seeing everywhere. I’ve encountered feather trim dresses at weddings (both on guests and on brides!), and feather-trimmed mini skirts around Christmas and New Year’s, too, but I haven’t wanted to go in on the trend for clothing I’m only going to wear once. I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of this long-sleeve, whether that’s in the solid black, beige, or striped options (because I intend on getting all three). I love the thought of rocking the feather-trimmed sleeves for a date night, work event, or girls’ night. J.Crew Colorblock Trainers J.Crew Orig. $118 $40 at Jcrew.com Lastly, it felt like a crime to shop Black Friday at J.Crew and not take advantage of some of its shoe sales, which is why I had to go with the Colorblock Trainers. Aside from color-blocking shoe styles being super “in” right now, these are only $40—too cheap to pass up! That’s a stunning 67 percent off, and with how neutral they are, I know these will quickly become my go-to sneakers for walking the dog, running errands, heading to the gym, and pairing with casual athleisure outfits. With versatility like that, they’re a true Black Friday steal. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why!
