Hoda Kotb Says Big Move Is All About Her Girls

Hoda Kotb is finally making a move to the suburbs now that she's finished covering the Paris Olympics.

The Today host said that she's leaving her New York City apartment behind for the sake of her two girls. During her 60th birthday bash at the Today studios this week, Kotb told People she's been slowly getting the family's new home ready since buying it back in March.

"I want my kids to feel grass on their feet, and play in the yard, and ride bikes down the street, and run up and down the stairs," Kotb explained. "I just see that life for them in this perfect house in this beautiful little town where I know they'll be able to blossom into beautiful, independent, strong women."

Kotb has lived in the city with daughters Hayley, 7, and Hope, 5, since their adoptions in 2017 and 2019. She says she sees "endless possibilities" for her girls, who have taught her she was "always good enough to be a mom"—flaws and all.

And while Kotb's move will give them space to grow, she's ready to spread out in a new home, too.

"It's like my roots need a bigger pot," she says. "You know when you take a plant out of a pot, and its roots are all twisted and tight? And then you put it in a bigger pot with fresh new soil and it just grows bigger and stronger? That's the journey I'm on right now."
