The Paris Olympics’ most unexpected hero—save for “Pommel Horse Guy” Stephen Nedoroscik—is a 65-year-old rapper. In addition to sponsoring the Team USA women’s water polo team, provided financial support to a track and field athlete from Raleigh, North Carolina, who was struggling to make ends meet while chasing her dream. Veronica Fraley, the 2024 NCAA discus champion, is currently working on her second masters degree at Vanderbilt University while pursuing discus throw professionally. She revealed on Twitter last week that she was unable to pay her rent while competing in the Olympics. The post quickly went viral, ultimately catching the eye of Flav, who was in Paris supporting his beloved water polo team. The rapper responded to Fraley’s tweet with an offer to pay her rent. "I gotchu, DM me so I can send payment TODAY so you don't have to worry about this TOMORROW,” he wrote. Alexis Ohanian, the Reddit co-founder who is married to Serena Williams, chimed in with an offer to split Fraley’s rent with Flav. Fraley later created a GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $23,000 to help fund her track and field efforts. She now has enough money to pay her rent for an entire year. “This is the power of community,” Flav tweeted after seeing how much money Fraley brought in. Unfortunately Fraley just missed the cut for the final in the women's discus competition Friday, placing 13th among those in the qualifying round. She said she will use the money raised to make the 2025 World Championships in Japan and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Team Flavor Flav! Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why!
