Anonymous Homeless Man Rescues Puppies, Leaves Them At North Carolina Shelter With Heart-Wrenching Note

A North Carolina animal shelter is thanking a kindhearted homeless man for a gesture that serves as a “testament to the kindness that still exists in the world, even in the most challenging times.”

A winter storm was just starting to let up when Fayetteville Animal Protection Society staff found five puppies on the shelter's doorstep earlier this month. The dogs were left with a heart wrenching note explaining that their mother had died.

Fayetteville Animal Protection Society shared a photo of the puppies and the note that “simultaneously broke and uplifted our hearts” on Facebook.

"Please help! I found these puppies sadly after noticing a local stray dog that I would often feed when I could, dead by the road. She had been hit by a car,” the handwritten note reads. “I knew from feeding her that she had puppies somewhere and after searching where I would usually see her I found them.”

“I'm sorry for leaving them like this but I myself am homeless and cannot afford to care for them,” it continues. “My heart shatters for them and their mother. I just want them to be given the chance their mother, like myself, was never given.” 

“Please do not think poorly of me but it felt wrong leaving them alone in the cold waiting on a mother that would not be coming home,” the note concludes. “Sincerely, nameless man."

Fayetteville Animal Protection Society shared a message for the “kind soul” who took it upon himself to rescue the sweet little puppies. Staff wanted him to know that his act of kindness did not go unnoticed.

“Your empathy in the face of adversity gives us hope and inspiration,” the shelter wrote in the now-viral Facebook post. “We promise to honor your selfless gesture by providing these puppies with the love and care they deserve. If you’re up for it, please swing by the shelter to visit the puppies and to get a proper thank you!”

Jackie Peery, the animal shelter’s executive director, told KKTV that the puppies, which are believed to be about seven weeks old, are doing well thanks to the nameless man.

“We have three girls and two boys. When they first got here, they were kind of lethargic. But now, after getting nutrition and a warm place to lay, they are really romping around,” Peery said.

The puppies are still too young for adoption but Fayetteville Animal Protection Society is currently seeking donations to cover their medical needs.
