Presley's authentic blue suede shoes are being sold by British auction house Henry Aldridge and Son. Bidding is set to open at $70,000, but some speculate that the famous footwear could sell for up to $150,000. According to the auction house, Presley wore the shoes on- and off the stage throughout the 1950s, most notably on July 1, 1956, to sing “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You” and "Hound Dog" (to a real hound dog) on The Steve Allen Show. He reportedly gifted them to his friend, Alan Fortas, in 1958 before joining the Army. The lot also includes three documents illustrating the history of the shoes: two signed letters of authenticity from the Elvis Presley Museum and a letter from Fortas, Presley’s close friend and ranch foreman at Circle G Ranch. "The night before Elvis' army induction here in Memphis, Elvis had an all-night party at Graceland," Fortas’ letter reads, in part. "Afterwards we went to the Rainbow roller rink. When we all got home Elvis called some of us upstairs and was giving away some of his clothes he didn't think he would be wearing or wanted when he came back from the army. That night Elvis gave me these blue suede shoes size 10 1/2. I've owned these all these years." Start counting your spare change... the auction goes live on Friday, June 28. Was this page helpful?
