The supermarket gets high marks for its friendly service, and for its house brand products, like its fried chicken, freshly-baked French bread, Key lime pies, and perhaps most of all, its famous Pub Subs. People can get very attached to these items, and when they are retired from the shelves, it can feel like losing a close friend. In some cases, there have even been formal petitions to bring back certain products from Publix, like bakery-made icebox cheesecake bars. With that in mind, we reached out to Maria Brous, Director of Communications at Publix, about some of their most popular discontinued foods and drinks to find out whether there’s a chance we might see them again. Read on to find out what she said—in some cases, you just might be delighted! While Publix has other flavor options, if you're the type to eat all the strawberry out of a pint of Neapolitan ice cream, the fact that they discontinued the strawberry cake is going to sting. Is it coming back? Sorry, no. Yellow Cake Slices With Chocolate Frosting If you're looking for a personal party, Publix individual cake slices are a dream. All you need is a fork and you can celebrate the smallest victories in style. Like above, Publix does have other flavor options, but the classic combination of yellow cake with chocolate icing has reportedly been discontinued, and that's a shame. Is it coming back? No, but there’s an alternative. “Vanilla cake slices with fudge icing are available in store. If a particular store doesn't have it merchandised, the customer can inquire with a bakery associate,” says Brous. Taco Chicken Dip This was available as a limited-time item, but was so good it should be available year round and on-demand. The protein-heavy dip was packed with flavor thanks to roasted green chiles, sour cream, cheese, and zesty taco seasoning. Is it coming back? Sadly, no. But we loved it so much we developed a similar dip you can make at home. Icebox Cheesecake This dessert combined dark chocolate, a whipped cream cheese filling, chocolate frosting, and a cherry on top for a little slice of heaven. One customer loved this cheesecake slice so much they started a petition begging Publix to bring it back. Is it coming back? Unfortunately not. Publix’s new Brownie Crunch Cheesecake is very similar in flavor profile and makes a good alternative, according to Brous. Sour Cream and Cheddar Macaroni Salad While you can find classic Publix macaroni salad at the deli, if you're hankering for the zesty flavor of sour cream and cheddar, that particular combination was discontinued at Publix, so you might have to make your own. Is it coming back? Sadly, no. 21 Cold Summer Pasta Salads For Easy Meals All Season Long Getty Images Onion Rye Bread If you want to make a really good sandwich, you have to start with the bread. Publix made it easy with this loaf, which paired earthy dark rye with a zesty hit of onion. Sadly, the bread has been discontinued in most stores. Is it coming back? Sadly, no. Fiery Cranberry Rotisserie Chicken This flavor-packed rotisserie chicken put your average rotisserie chicken to shame with its zippy taste. Limited time items frequently return to shelves, but this one hasn't made a repeat appearance in quite awhile, which is disappointing. Is it coming back? Sadly, no.
