Southern Living's editorial guidelines Published on May 31, 2024 Close Photo: Blue Plate Blue Plate has launched two new creamy sauces to spice up your fish sandwiches, fried shrimp, and shucked oysters just in time for summer. The New Orleans-based mayonnaise manufacturer is introducing Creamy Cocktail and Creole Tartar Sauce. Both sauces are based on Blue Plate Mayonnaise, the almost-homemade tasting condiment Southerners have been slathering on sandwiches since 1927. (Today it's owned by Luzianne-maker Reily Foods along with other New Orleans favorites like French Market Coffee.) Blue Plate's Creamy Cocktail Sauce adds the traditional ingredients of ketchup and horseradish to their original mayonnaise recipe. The Creole Tartar Sauce includes relish, herbs, spices, and a little Creole mustard. Both sound like perfectly respectable toppings for your shrimp po'boy. We suggest trying them with our Louisville Rolled Oysters, Southern Fried Shrimp, or Classic Fried Catfish as well. Of course, you can make your own sauces (we especially like this Comeback Sauce as well as this Tartar Sauce, which heightens the flavor with a splash of pickle juice). But it's nice to be able to just open a jar when you're in a hurry at dinner. You can find Blue Plate Mayonnaise at major supermarkets like Walmart, Publix, Winn Dixie, and Lowes Foods. Check blueplatemayo.com to find the nearest store. It's easy to spot this brand hailing from the Gulf coast. Look for the distinctive blue label featuring Willow Ware china, a paddleboat, magnolia blooms, and a flying pelican. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
