The 10 Flower Delivery Services We Love The Most

There’s nothing like a bouquet of flowers to express our feelings of joy or sympathy.

We love all colors and types of flowers—roses, peonies, ranunculus, sunflowers, and tulips—and we send them with a simple message of kindness, thoughtfulness, and love. Although you don’t need to be a master florist to pick up a few blooms at a local grocery store and arrange them in a vase, many prefer to order bouquets and arrangements for special occasions and have them delivered to our doorsteps or to others. Sending a fresh spring bouquet of flowers is an easy yet profound way to show a person that you care and your thoughts are with them.

Whether you are looking to commemorate a graduation, celebrate a new baby or new love, or color bomb your best friend on her birthday, sending flowers to someone’s front door or workplace brings joy.

“Purchasing flowers from a local florist ensures personalized service, support of your local businesses and economy, and in most cases, quicker resolution of issues should any arise,” says Cameron Pappas.

Thankfully, sending flowers, whether by a local florist or a national flower delivery service, has never been easier, regardless of whether your recipient is near or far. “Using a service allows you to send flowers to someone practically anywhere with just a few clicks,” says Niki Irving.

What’s Great About It
  • Arrangements are dried and can last a year or longer

  • A more sustainable alternative to the traditional bouquet or arrangement

  • No water or water changes needed for freshness

What Could Be Better
  • Lifespan of the bouquet is indefinite since they are dried flowers

Idlewild Floral arrangements are a unique alternative to the traditional bouquet of fresh flowers. They’re a work of art. Hand-crafted by owner Carla Wingett in San Luis Obispo, California, this U.S.-based flower company makes bouquets with beautifully preserved dried flowers bursting with color, surprisingly fragrant, and beautifully unique.

Unlike traditional flowers, these require no water and no regular maintenance. Because Idlewild Florals specializes in dried flower arrangements, their bouquets are a commitment, so if you prefer to alternate bouquets, be aware that their lifespan is indefinite. Not confined by season, these bouquets are timeless. A more sustainable and low-maintenance way to incorporate plants into your home, these unique bouquets are an alternative to the traditional bouquet.

They offer a variety of bouquets, arrangements, statement bouquets, vases, and wreaths to choose from. They also offer a customizable “Build-Your-Own Bouquet” and a subscription service, the “Bouquet of the Season Club,” that delivers a new arrangement to your door every few months.

Their luxurious gift sets, gift boxes, and bags include a stunning floral arrangement and luxury spa items like mineral milk soaks, bath bombs, artisan mugs, and teas. They also have unique options for babies and moms to make your loved ones (and their little ones) feel loved.

Best Plants

The Sill

The Sill Petite Sunset Orchid

The Sill

What’s Great About It
  • Front door delivery without the hassle of transporting a large potted plant

  • Reusable pot

  • Filters for pet-friendly, easy-care, and low-light plants

What Could Be Better
  • Price points are higher compared to similar plants at big box stores

A challenging aspect of gifting a house plant is the transportation of it, but The Sill conveniently ships straight to you or your loved one’s door and takes the worry of transporting a potted plant out of the equation for you. From spilled dirt, to damaged leaves and broken succulents, the risk of harming a large house plant in transportation might be worth front porch delivery.

It is important to note that their plants are comparable to those found at a local nursery or big box store but slightly higher in price. However, for bigger plant purchases, the convenience and reusable pot might be worth it.

We appreciate that The Sill sources their plants from local growers to ensure high quality. They also offer plant subscriptions, and each box of flowers arrives with the fun proclamation, “Plants make people happy.”

From a pet-friendly olive tree to an easy-to-use website, you can choose among categories of plants, including large plants, suggested plants for beginners, pet-friendly plants, and plants that thrive in low light. One helpful notation on their website under each plant or tree is the zone in which the plant will thrive.

Delivery Area: United States | Price Range: $29–$400 | Subscription Options: Yes

What’s Great About It
  • Local professional florists throughout the United States fulfill orders

  • Customer service oriented

What Could Be Better
  • Compared to competitors, they offer less variety of arrangements

Teleflora is a nationwide platform that works with local florists for flower delivery. Pre-dating the internet, Teleflora has been in the floral industry for 80 years and works with over 10,000 florists in the United States to support local flower shops and deliver arrangements. With years of practice, they have developed a customer service team ready to help should you experience an issue.

After ordering an arrangement from Teleflora’s website, they send your order to a local florist who will cut and arrange the piece and then send it out for delivery.  They offer a same-day delivery service and a flat rate for delivery for orders in the U.S. and Canada.

They also boast many budget options on their site so that you can choose from a range of prices for the occasion. Small businesses make 100% of their orders, so it’s important to understand that if you’re ordering locally it might be easier to first go through a local florist to be sure you know exactly what they have to offer, since substitutions could happen.

The Bottom Line

Our Best Overall pick is The Bouqs Co. because of its freshness and farm-to-door approach. We also appreciate its user-friendly website and variety of arrangements and bouquets.

1-800-Flowers is our budget pick because of the variety they provide and the lowest price we’ve seen on delivery flowers.

Tips for Choosing the Right Flower Delivery Service

Selection

When selecting a flower arrangement, if you have the option, it’s best to choose flowers that are locally sourced. Most times, locally sourced flowers have traveled less distance to reach the florist’s shop, and these will typically stay fresher longer.

“If a florist offers a ‘designer's choice’ arrangement, that is usually going to allow the designer to use their creativity and produce a more custom, unique floral arrangement,” Irving explains. If you’re unsure where to start, choose what you think your recipient will love or give your designer the autonomy to create a custom arrangement with the freshest, local flowers they have in stock.

Speed of Delivery

Many flower delivery services allow you to conveniently choose the date you prefer the floral arrangement to be delivered. As with most situations, a tip here is to plan ahead as best you can. “Being specific about delivery instructions, such as exact location and time of day, will ensure a smooth delivery process,” Irving recommends.

Customization

Many flower delivery services work with contracted florists who typically use standard flowers and pre-written recipes for the arrangements. “I recommend looking for a floral delivery service that specializes in seasonal, locally sourced flowers,” Irving says. Doing your research by looking at the online portfolio of a florist before placing an order can be a benefit before ordering. “Make sure their style and aesthetic match the arrangement you're hoping to send,” she says.

Questions and Answers

How long will flowers last once delivered?

All good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, this is true for a beautiful bouquet of flowers, too. “The typical vase life should be about one week,” says Irving.

Since there may be many different blooms in an arrangement or bouquet, some flowers may wilt faster or slower. As this happens over time, just remove the fading stems and enjoy the fresh-looking flowers.

What can I do to keep flowers fresh longer?

Although a flower arrangement will inevitably wilt, fortunately, there are small steps you can take to preserve the flowers for as long as possible. Changing the water daily and trimming flowers on a 45-degree angle can help prolong their life. “Best practices include making sure the vase has clean water at all times, keeping flowers out of direct sunlight and placing them in a cool location in your home or office,” says Irving.

If a flower food packet accompanies the flower arrangement, stir the packet into the water before adding the flowers. Also, be sure to remove all the leaves from the flower's stem to reduce the growth of bacteria in the vase.

Which flowers are safe for pets?

Most cut flowers are safe for Fido and Fluffy. However, some flowers are certainly less safe for pets. “If you have a furry family member who may be tempted to sample a floral arrangement, it's best to avoid the following varieties: foxglove, lily, tulip, hyacinth, daffodil, and clematis,” Irving says.
