Two Alabama newborns have big names to live up to, but they’ll do it together.

Little Johnny Cash Davis and June Carter Clark were both born at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children on April 10, 2024, just down the hall from each other. Their parents walked into the hospital as total strangers, but left bound for life.

Mama Nicole Davis told WAFF’s Tennessee Valley Living that she and her husband Johnny Lee Davis Jr. spent a lot of time thinking about a name for their son—Johnny Lee Davis III included—before settling on Johnny Cash, or “Cash” for short.

Just down the hall, Mama Sophie Clark, whose husband’s first name, Carter, was used for June’s middle name, told the local news station: “We do love Johnny Cash, but we really just thought the name ‘June’ was beautiful.”

The families only realized the country music coincidence when Carter’s uncle and Johnny Jr.—who happened to be wearing a Johnny Cash shirt in celebration of his son's birth—ran into each other in the hospital elevator and struck up a conversation.

“Of course we immediately took them out in the hall and took pictures and exchanged information so that they will always have this cool coincidence to follow them as they grow and they’ll always have a cool story,” Nicole explained.

The Davises and the Clarks are spending time getting to know each other. Nicole told Southern Living that they’re planning a playdate in the next week or two and will take them to the Grand Ole Opry for some photos where the real Johnny [Cash] and June [Carter] met.

“I think it’s so fun that in a world where there’s a lot of little babies that were born on April 10, these two guys are always going to have this really fun backstory and always have an opportunity to have a friend that they met in an unconventional but really special way,” she told Tennessee Valley Living. “I want them to stay friends and stay connected so that they will always have this fun memory together.”
