If you were wondering, yes, A&W created this holiday—and we're here for it. On a blazing August afternoon, nothing refreshes quite like a root beer float. This thirst-quenching, ice-cold, and frothy summer treat captures all that is sweet about summer. No purchase is necessary to get your free small root beer float at your local A&W in August (limited to one per person). However, customers have the option to donate to Disabled American Veterans, a nonprofit to which A&W has contributed over $1 million in the past 10 years with its annual promotion. A&W is also having some fun with their national holiday through its “Float Flex” campaign—all stores will be encouraging customers to “flex” their muscles for their free float between 2 and 8 p.m. The root beer-maker will also offer a chance to win a "float flex workout kit" on its Instagram page. "Tipping scales at a vein-popping 3 lbs. 5 oz., A&W’s world-famous Root Beer Float might just be the heaviest drink in fast food," the promotional page states. "Other scrawny beverages look like featherweights in the shadow of this colossal All American icon. It’s hugely delicious…if you can handle it." Sounds like a worthy and delicious challenge.
